Farmyard Redevelopment in Dedham, Essex

ADP secured planning consent for the demolition of the existing farm outbuildings and erection of 17 new homes at the edge of Dedham, Essex.

The key planning and design challenges included:

  • Location outside of a settlement boundary;

  • Proximity to heritage assets; and

  • Proximity to the Dedham Vale Area of Natural Beauty.

  • ADP developed a design and heritage-led redevelopment.

We developed a robust planning strategy to justify the principle of development, which was supported by a strong design approach that included:

  • The creation of spaces, forms and silhouettes sympathetic to the village and its historic context and development.

  • The development of a number of typologies, informed by farm buildings, almhouses, and local vernacular.
