Planning and Listed Building Consent Given for an Extension in Rural Suffolk

Our planning consultants have secured planning and listed building consent from Babergh District Council for the extension of a Listed building in Higham, Suffolk.

The dwelling is detached and set in its own established domestic rural setting. The house is situated to the rear of its grounds which consist in the main of grassed areas, surrounded with mature trees and hedges. The dwelling itself has a unique appearance, with a conical-ended roof.

The Design

The proposal sought to sympathetically amend and slightly enlarge the rear extension of the Cottage to provide an internal staircase to accommodate an additional bedroom. This proposal was developed following consultation with the National Trust, who administer a covenant on the cottage.

The proposals included the removal of an odorous oil tank and its replacement with an electric boiler. It also included an outbuilding to securely house a car and garden tools. The appearance of the outbuilding from Hadleigh Road will now be predominantly one of a plain tiled roofscape to a simple structure clad in weatherboard.
