Mixed-use Building, Colchester

Chesterwell comprises a new urban extension to Colchester, comprising 1,600 new dwellings, with a neighbourhood centre. A D P has been given the responsibility to design each of the key phases of this new neighbourhood.

As a part of this development, we designed a mixed-use building that will form a key component of the new neighbourhood centre. The building will comprise four commercial units on the ground and first floor within a flexible Class A1-A5/D1 and B1a use, alongside residential uses and will act as a focal point and landmark at the entrance to the new neighbourhood.

The building has been designed to reinforce the sense of arrival into the neighbourhood centre and aid legibility, with active frontages that contribute to a sense of vibrancy within the streetscene.
