Expansion and Modernisation of Golf Facilities, Bournemouth

A D P provided design and planning support for the expansion and modernisation of a golf club in Bournemouth, Hampshire.

The new owners of the golf club wanted to bringing the facilities up to contemporary standard and appeal to wider cross-section of the community and increase the proportion of both female and young players to enable a more socially balanced participation within the sport. This required a move from traditional golf facilities to allow for a greater flexibility of use to cater for a socially more inclusive participation in golf.

We worked with the golf club owners to develop a vision for the site that could be delivered incrementally and as required. This involved submitting a number of different planning applications for individual elements.

The approved works included:

  • The creation of an Adventure Golf area;

  • The expansion of the golf clubhouse; and The modernisation of the buildings to provide new facilities, such as, flexible space for event use and fitness, and

  • An upgrade of existing facilities and buildings, such as the restaurant, bar and changing rooms to accommodate a new membership profile and client.

The challenge in this instance is that the site is located within the South East Dorset Green Belt that surrounds Bournemouth. With each planning application we had to demonstrate that the proposed design and works were fully complaint with national and local Green belt planning policy.
