Golf Club Expansion and Diversification, London

A D P provided architectural and planning support for a golf club in North London that was seeking to upgrade, expand and diversify its golfing facilities to enable the club to appeal to a broader market.

The challenge in this case was that the site is located within the Metropolitan Green Belt, with elements designated as a site of nature conservation and other parts designated as public open space. The planning policy position was consequently, fairly restrictive. Working with our client, and taking into account these planning constraints, we put together a strategy that could be implemented on a staged process to respond to the needs of the club at a given moment.

Some of the improvements have included:

• The introduction of an Adventure Golf course;

• Utilising existing buildings, with associated extensions and alterations, to create an indoor family putting course;

• Utilising existing buildings to create a junior golf academy that includes an indoor putting area for teaching and practice, a virtual golf coaching room, a classroom and a library/study area, together with social area; and

• Utilising existing buildings to create of modern gym.
