Replacement Dwelling, Layer-De-La-Haye, Essex

Our Planning Director secured planning consent for a contemporary home in rural Essex, following a planning appeal. The existing building was of poor design and in poor condition. Our client sought to replace this building with a modern contemporary home.

We designed a low-profile building that would assimilate into the landscape, with the mass broken into modulated elements that responded to the topography of the site.

Disappointingly, the Council would only accept a traditionally designed dwelling at this location and refused the application. Our Planning Director put together a robust and evidenced planning case that demonstrated that the proposed development met local and national planning policy and that is was perfectly appropriate for the context in which the site is located. The Planning Inspectorate agreed with the case put forward and approved the appeal.

This bespoke dwelling is being developed as a self-build dwelling. Self-build schemes provide an excellent opportunity to develop a bespoke home that meets the needs and design preferences of the individual.
