Planning Permission Granted for Modifications to an Existing Dwelling in Colchester

We have successfully gained planning permission for the proposed re-arrangement, adaptation and extensions to an existing dwelling in Colchester, Essex.

The existing 1930s detached property, located at the edge of Colchester is set within a large landscaped plot. The proposed design was heavily influenced by the landscape constraints and its edge of settlement location.

The existing building was looking tired and did not fully seize upon the upon the opportunities of the location. The key components of the proposed scheme comprised:

  • A side extension in the form of a forward-facing gable. This brought balance and symmetry to the existing gable feature and gave the façade a greater sense of grandeur.

  • Further extensions to the rear and side have allowed the proposals to turn a confusing internal layout into a modern home with a variety of spaces to meet the needs of the family, for example, open plan kitchen / dinning area, separate lounge and a child’s play space.

  • The elevations were re-rendered with smooth finish, with the introduction of a wall plinth detail to match existing.

Existing windows were all replaced with grey windows. These windows included panel detailing to add greater visual interest. The new entrance provides kerb appeal to this now handsome property.
