Planning Permission Granted for 8 Dwellings in Little Clacton, Essex
We were approach to design a new residential development, comprising eight family homes in Little Clacton, Essex. The proposed scheme was well received by the Council and we are delighted that Tendring District Council has approved planning permission.
The site is located at the edge of the Little Clacton, but is well located in terms of access to key local amenities. As such, it proved to be a great location for further family homes.
The site sits on an informal semi-rural lane, which is flanked predominantly by residential developments. The surrounding properties contain a variety of forms, character and material, including a mixture of bungalow and two-storey properties. This variety is a result of small-scale incremental housing growth over time.
The varied characteristics of the local area represented both a design challenge and opportunity. The scheme was devised as a low-density development to reflect the rural settlement, with the many of the properties being detached and set in spacious plots. This allowed us to design individual properties and we took the opportunity to re-establish the local Essex vernacular form, composition, and proportions. The ground floor utilised bay windows, and carefully considered materials characteristic of this rural area. The rhythm, silhouette and detail of the proposed dwellings were consequently able to reflect local character. The retention of existing landscape features and inclusion of substantial frontage landscaping enabled the proposal to embed into its setting.
