Approval for an Extension to an Existing Home in West Mersea

Colchester Borough Council has approved the proposed modifications to an existing detached family home in West Mersea, Essex.

The proposed works included a two-storey side extension and single storey extensions, with additional first floor accommodation. The proposed works also included external alterations and modifications with the introduction of natural timber cladding and added detailing.

There are a number of considerations when establishing the extent to which an existing dwelling can be extended and modified. These include the potential impact upon the streetscene, that is to ensure that the proposed works sit comfortably within the setting and do result in the overdevelopment of a site. It is also important to ensure that the proposed works do not have a material impact upon neighbouring amenity, in terms of privacy, outlook and light.

We always begin our projects with a contextual analysis to understand the site and its surroundings. This ensures we are able to develop a robust design that can stand up to scrutiny during the planning application process, whilst seeking to achieve the aspirations of our clients.
