Alterations to a Listed Building, Sudbury

A D P were instructed to aid in the improvements and renovations to this Grade II Listed, 16th century farmhouse in a village on the Essex / Suffolk borders near Sudbury.

When our client purchased the property, the house and associated outbuildings were in a state of disrepair. Our client’s project aim was to restore the farmhouse and enhance its features.

A number of emergency repairs were necessary to ensure this listed building did not fall into disrepair. A D P collaborated with Essex County Council’s Listed Historic Environment Officers to ensure all proposed works were sympathetic to the existing farmhouse and used the appropriate materials and techniques.

The improvements and enhancements were as follows:

  • Replacement of existing unsafe staircase;

  • Repair and conservation of original bread oven;

  • External wall renovations;

  • Partial replacement of outbuilding;

  • Repair to existing and extension to garden wall; and

  • Landscaping.
