Neil Smashes Land Speed Record on a Bike

<-- Back to News Page August 21, 2019

We are very proud of our very own, Neil Campbell, who on Saturday 17th August 2019, broke a men’s world record for the fastest speed on a bike. Astonishingly, Neil was clocked at 174 mph, smashing the previous record of 167 mph, which was set 24 years ago by Dutchman, Fred Rompelberg.

Photographs can be viewed here and the official website is here.

Neil broke the world record using a custom-bike, built by Moss Bikes, based on the design of a tandem. He was pulled along by a powerful Porsche Cayenne, before then being released so he went through the timing gate under his own power.

He will be planning to try to reach 220mph next year on a six-mile track at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, USA, which is also the location where American Denise Mueller-Korenek set the all-time record last year, reaching a speed of 184mph.

We will be excited to have Neil back in the office, but appreciate he now will have certain media responsibilities to attend to first !!

Further new articles on the world record attempt can be viewed in various publications including Cycle Weekly, The Guardian and BBC News.
